It may seem unusual to talk about finding the perfect accountant in a blog intended to help accountants to build a bigger accountancy practice but I have my reasons.
Articles like Finding (and keeping) that perfect accountant which is from the NZBusiness Site Magazine help you to move into the mind of a prospective client.
You know all about accountants but the average small business client has as much about how to find a perfect accountant as you would for picking the best neurosurgeon.
The article is a bit tough to read because the type is condensed and there isn't any white space between the paragraphs.
This phrase jumped out at me:
"many accountants act as if being technically competent is enough to keep clients happy and appear to forget about the many other aspects of providing great service."
And also:
“The common mistakes include confusing clients about what information is required and when, taking far too long to complete jobs, not responding quickly enough to calls or emails, passing on jobs to inexperienced staff without letting clients know, not explaining issues in language the client understands, and surprising clients with the size of the bill.”
I also liked the idea of what would Virgin Accountants looked like if Sir Richard Branson decided to shake up the profession and attack the typical small business frustrations. Why not try brainstorming it for 30 minutes and see what you come up with?
It could go a long way to helping your clients find the perfect accountant - you!
