I found this article which talks about what not to expect from a business coach and the contrarian approach appealed.
Five Things Not To Expect From A Business CoachTo summarise, the five things you won't get from a coach are:
- The coach won't know everything - very true and I really hope he or she does think they do.
- The coach won't be as expensive as you expect - not so sure about this one as I hear some sky high figures quoted while some prospects expect you to work for peanuts.
- Don't expect an out-of-the-box solution. I totally agree, I think the best coaches work with a tailored framework so there is structure but it is fitted to your business.
- Don't expect your coach to do the work for you. Again I agree. Tiger Woods does send his coach out to play the difficult bunker shot when he's one up with one to play at the Masters.
- Don't expect a yes man. Perish the thought. You've got your family and friends to be nice to you and the market's often the most unsympathetic listener. Your coach is in the middle. There to encourage and support you but to tell you how it really is, to ask you difficult questions and to help hold yourself accountable.
