Eben is drawing on neuro-psychology - scientists can now see which parts of the brain are triggered by various thoughts and emotions.

Good stuff in this first video and it mirrors what I've read elsewhere about decision making and the irrational behaviour we have with spending where we see the gain of buying but don't really recognise the pain of extended credit card debt.

Eben exposes the monthly payment trap.

Marketers want to make the sale, so to make things seem more affordable, the huge flat screen TV isn't £800 but £20 per month for the next five years.

But the true cost is what economists call the opportunity cost - what you are giving up to buy the TV.

And you may be giving up buying something else - because despite the ability to create huge credit card debts, it eventually catches up with you.
