I should explain that this was originally written in March 2010 when Eben was taking the first group through the Self Made Wealth program which he promoted exclusively to his own list. There was none of the affiliate promotions that you are seeing in January 2011.
As a keen Eben Pagan watcher, I reported on the launch but at that stage I hadn't seen the Self Made Wealth program although I've since been given a copy to review.
It is therefore predictive of what will be repeated in the January 2011 launch.
Finance and wealth building is a hot topic for me since I am shocked by how little understanding the average person has over finance, how society encourages people to do the wrong things (it's not all the fault of marketers and bankers) and the mess individuals, businesses and governments get into when they don't understand the fundamental truths of money and wealth.
I was lucky. I trained as an accountant and I was brought up in a household where my father was a keen investor. Apart from my mortgage on my house, the only big debt I've had was to buiy my first car when I first started working. It was an experienced that scarred me. The repayments and interest hurt although I was working so hard to qualify as an accountant (and earn more money), I didn't have the time to worry about what I couldn't afford to buy.
Even if you don't have any intention of buying the program, I recommend you learn from the launch videos. Eben shares some great things.

Eben Pagan has released a series of four videos to promote his new training program Self Made Wealth.
Each is short and well worth watching to help you think about money and in particular what is holding you back from accumulating wealth.

What Is Self Made Wealth?
Eben has issued another video to explain what his Self Made Wealth program is all about.

The basic message is that Self Made Wealth is an education and training program that will help you to control money and stop it controlling you.
It starts by understanding the four problems that stop financial success:
- We're not wired for success with money
- We've got bad programming for money
- We have an unhealthy emotional feeling about money
- We do the wrong things with money
The deeper issue is that we are out of control, and being out of control of your money threatens everything else in your life.
But even if we understand money, we may not understand wealth. Eben goes to great lengths to show that the rich look beyond money and rarely have huge bank accounts because they find better ways to make their wealth work for them.
Self Made Wealth is a 90 day, video based mentoring program delivered online.
It is organised into three parts:
- Self Made Wealth Month 1 - the mental (4 videos)
- Self Made Wealth Month 2 - the emotional (4 videos)

In 2010 Eben Pagan made three short sample videos available from the Self Made Wealth Program to demonstrate the value available.
The first Self Made Wealth sample video focused on the wealth prevention habits we have.
It starts with a great quote which I think Eben said was a Turkish proverb - "No matter how far you've gone down the wrong road, turn back."
These are the things we habitually do that stop us from building wealth.
Eben outlined seven although there is some overlap so I've reduced them to three:
- Making impulse buys of little value - you buy something in the heat of the moment but you don't really want it or value it.
- Buying rapidly depreciating assets that lose their value quickly (e.g.a new car) or even worse, buying assets that turn out to be liabilities and keep draining cash out of your bank account (e.g. a boat that you rarely use but costs you mooring fees, insurance etc).
- Buying on credit cards and through debt where the high interest rates increase your costs of ownership.
The second Self Made Wealth sample video focuses on debt and how it has become the norm to buy stuff before we have the money to pay for it. Debt has become a way of life which creates additional financial burdens.
The third Self Made Wealth sample video introduces a new way of thinking about creating value and capturing part of it to build wealth. He also says that spending is an addiction.

Self Made Wealth Review
The introduction video for Self Made Wealth is 81 minutes long and Eben Pagan goes through the harsh realities of the common conditioning about money and wealth.
He goes over some of the ground covered in the promotional materials but I think you'll be shocked at the way society has been designed to hold you back and it's sure to contain plenty of Aha moments.
In particular people must stop being slaves to debt - it is just so destructive.
The Self Made Wealth Fast Start Videos
In the first week, you have five fast start videos with exercises to help you focus on what is going on in your mind and life about money and wealth and how it is happened. It also includes exercises to help you to think forward about what you'd do if you suddenly became wealthy.
These videos and exercises are short and sweet. I love them.
They'll definietly get you focused and you'll see how your bahaviour has been sabotaging your own desire to become wealthy.
Self Made Wealth Session 1 - Becoming A Financial Adult
In this first of four sessions focused on the mental side of wealth, Eben takes you through various key concepts about modern day life.
You'll see that you treat money in a juvenile way, eager to blame others when you should be taking responsibility for everything that happens.
This is critical. it is only by taking responsibility that you can take control and do the things that will build your own wealth, investing rather than spending on unnecessary wants.
It finishes with an exercise to help you to gain control of your spending.
Self Made Wealth Video 2 - A Game You Can Win
In this second, 73 minute video, Eben needs you to challenge the way you see the world and gradually build a more constructive and accurate view of the way things work. The first exercise helps you to do this.
The second is really challenging and while I haven't done it yet, I completely agree with the need to declutter your life and get rid of the deadweight stuff which is holding you back.
Self Made Wealth Video 3 - Taking Control Of Your Self Image
Eben explains that you need to get to grips with reality. It's a trick of our psychology that we can fool ourselves, get trapped in an untrue story which defines our self image and struggle to change.
There is an exercise to help you to create a more positive, empowering image.
Self Made Wealth Video 4 - The Beliefs Of Wealth
This is the last video which deals with the way you think and looks at how you can control your beliefs about money and wealth.
Self Made Wealth Video 5 - The Psychology Of Wealth Prevention
By week 5, Eben is turning his attention to your emotional feelings about wealth and how these stop you from being rich.
It sounds crazy but if you don't have the money you want and you don't seem to have the motivation to change, it's because you're getting some kind of pay-off which keeps you "happy poor". You may not feel happy but it's an excuse for why you're not taking the actions you can do to become wealthier. It's easier to be poor to have something to whinge about than to commit, really commit to change.
Self Made Wealth Video 6 - FEAR - The Ultimate Emotional Block To Creating Wealth
Fear is one of the strongest emotions - Eben says it dominate sall other emotions although I may argue love is stronger.
I thought this section was fascinating although I don't go along with all of Eben's remedies.
Self Made Wealth Video 7 - The Difference Between Wealth And Happiness
Remember the saying "money can't buy you happiness"?
Well it's true but it can make your life much easier and more comfortable and you can do the same for your loved ones.
In this session, Eben helps you understand the role money and wealth can play in your life and how you can use your success to create a better world.
Do you have to aim big like Bob Geldorf and Live Aid and change millions of lives.
No of course you don't, just making a positive difference to a few makes your life worthwhile.
Self Made Wealth Video 8 - Inner Wealth Creation
Session 8 helps you to lesarn to act with integrity so your thoughts, words and actions are consistent.
He goes on to explain the importance of receiving and how a negative self imagecan stop us accepting well intentioned and much needed help from others.
Finally he talks about the six emotions to success. No greed isn't one of them.
Self Made Wealth Video 9 - Stop Self Sabotage
By week 9 the focus moves to your actions and the new things you will do to help you to create and attract wealth into your life and then keep it.
As Eben says, the enemy is get rich quick schemes.
Perhaps you're cynical about Internet marketing courses and believe they are sold as get rich quick. Some certainly are but the reality is that it takes time and hard work to make things happen combined with some luck.
In this module Eben wants you to stop doing the things that are damaging your wealth building prospects.
This includes relying on debt and credit cards and making impulsive buying decisions as you search for instant gratification to your wants and desires.
I understand the logic of dealing with thoughts, feelings and actions but I'd have preferred Eben to introduce this content at the start.
If you're bleeding, the first task is to stop it.
There's some great practical advice in this module to help you to get out of debt and to control your spending.
He doesn't include one of my favourite tips.
That's to keep a log with three columns - cash, bank and credit cards - and list down everything you spend. The cup of coffee, the round of drinks in the pub, the newspaper, the train ticket, the supermarket purchases (highlighting any luxuries seperately) and the new pair of shoes.
You list everything. Just like recording the food you eat when you're dieting, the process of knowing there's no hiding place makes you think twice about the little treat you want but shouldn't have.
Then once a week look down your list and ask yourself "Did I get value from that spending?"
And if not, why not?
If you could, would you go back and not buy? (If so, can you get your money back?)
Learn about your spending and see the difference between the short term high of buying things you want compared to the longer term satisfaction of spending wisely.
Self Made Wealth Video 10 - Creating Maximum Value
Eben has some interesting things to say about creating real value for people and not what he calls veneer - things that look good on the surface but don't have real worth.
The exercises are interesting in this session.
The first helps you to identify how you can create value for others.
The second helps you to findd opportunities for you to create value for other people in your life.
This is an essential lesson and one that millions of employees need to understand. It is the big difference between working for someone else and working for yourself.
In the first you feel that you've earned your money by what you've put in - the hours that you've worked and the effort you made. In the second, you know that inputs don't matter. It's what your customers and clients get out of the deal that determines your value to them.
Imagine you employ two salesmen.
The first works hard but is a poor opener and closer and scrapes by with just enough sales to cover his costs.
The second is lazy but charming. A master persuader. He's probably seducing half his femaile customers but he makes sales that cover his salary ten times over.
Even though he may have the morals of an alley cat, he's worth much more, not because of his inputs but because of what he achieves.
Self Made Wealth Video 11 - Accumulate Personal Assets
Another interesting session as Eben covers the need to accumulate assets by investing in your own skills and abilities, your relationships and in hard assets.
Self Made Wealth Video 12 - Build Long Term Wealth
The phrase "long term" is important here.
The Self Made Wealth program is about changing your life because you're going to get out of debt, stop the bad spending, earn more money by creating more value for others and investing well.
Each of us has a simple choice.
Follow destructive spending habits which will keep you poor.
Or take control ignore what others may say and do and focus on the right things.
Self Made Wealth Assessment
Eben Pagan is a very good prresenter - clear, engaging and well researched.
Each session has at least one exercise to help you to apply the lessons to your life. To get value from the course, you need to be doing these exercises since over the weeks they are designed to change the way you think, feel and act with money and wealth.
This may be a problem if you are one of the people who doesn't go in for self reflection and you want to take direct action. You're going to be looking past the key content which has the potential to change your life.
I'm serious.
Becoming more self disciplined about money and switching from doing the right things instead of the wrong things can make a huge difference.
Lee Milteer, the success coach sent out an email today (January 11th 2011) saying that your bad habits are costing you your financial future.
She quoted some numbers:
- Overeating costs $258,000 over a lifetime
- Caffeine addition costs over $113,000 in a lifetime
- Smoking costs $183,000 for a man over his lifetime
Ouch!
It's staggering when you think about it and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Think of all the things you buy and you don't get value from.
Then look at the huge cost of debt and the interest you have to pay.
But the difference doesn't stop there.
If you save instead of spending, you'll be earning more money and creating a positive compounding effect.
How Much Is Self Made Wealth?
Eben Pagan is famous for creating very good but very expensive training programs from $1,997 upwards - and often a lot more if you add on the offers of live event training.
I hoped Self Made Wealth wouldn't cost anything like that much since it is focusing more on the people who don't have wealth rather than those who have some but want more.
Eben Pagan charged $997 for Self Made Wealth with the option of a payment plan in March 2010 when the program was being tested. Rumour has it that the 2011 program could be another at the regular premium price of $1,997 [update - I can now confirm that Self Made Wealth is $1,997 in January 2011]
That's a higher cost than I would have liked to see because this is such an important issue and those who need it most are those who don't have much money - or even much room on their credit cards.
The 2010 price caused some controversy on the comments on the Self Made Wealth blog and I see Eben hasn't allowed comments in 2011. There were plenty of people who love thed free content but the price has given many a problem and particularly if they are going to take the advice Eben has already shared for free.
Eben has added a few bonuses to the Self Made Wealth program to sweeten the deal.
In January 28th, he made some big changes to the offer - I guess that the original offer wasn't doing as well as he'd hoped.
He's really sweetened the dea and this is what you now get if you buy the Self Made Wealth program:
- Money Psychology training course
- His Ignition course, about building an online business
- A new program called Marketing Step By Step
- His Guru Home Study DVD course - this is about creating information products and it's excellent.
- A ticket to any live traaining program Eben is running in 2011 - if you don't want to travel, you will be able to aattend many of them virtually.
- His Genius Personality Profile & Development Training
- A live strategy session giving you the chance to work one-to-one with one of his coaches to help you create your action plan.
This is a huge amount. In fact I think there's a genuine danger that you geet overwhelmed.
Basically Self Made Wealth stops you making the mistakes which are holding back your wealth accumulation. I guess the Money Psychology course compliments this.
The other programs will help you to create entrepreneurial ventures whcih will increase your wealth, provided you're interested in information products and Internet marketing.

Beware of Affiliate Bonus Crap
I don't like the way these big launches are promoted with bonuses.
I think it's often unhelpful and potentially manipulative.
If the product is what you need, then it should stand on its own. This is particularly the case when the "guru" has loaded so much into the offer.
Much of what you get offered will be a distraction, you'll feel guilty about not finding the time to go through it and it will either duplicate what Eben is giving you (snd waste your time) or confuse you (and stop you taking action).
I feel strongly about this issue. If you buy Self Made Wealth, then I want you to get the best out of it.
That means following the trainings carefully, attending the live mentoring calls with Eben if possible, going back over your notes and even watching the videos a second or third time to make sure you've got the most of it. Then you need to put what you've learnt into action.
You need to think of Eben as your main business and wealth adviser. It's a huge mistake to spread yourself too thinly - trust me, as a business information addict, i know.
If you've bought other stuff because of the bonuses, ask yourself whether it has helped or hindered your actions to get value from the main product. You'll know the right thing to do and this is particularly appropriate for Self Made Wealth which is about stopping the destructive behaviour patterns which are self-sabotaging your wealth building efforts.

What I Think About The Self Made Wealth Pricing
I think the price presents a huge dilemma and reading the comments you can see the struggle of the heart saying "Yes I want Self Made Wealth" but the head saying "No I can't afford it because of my other debts."
I see this dilemma in my work with small business clients who are struggling. You need to do what feels right for you but it can involve making that leap of faith.
Sometimes you just have to do it - but if you do, commit 100% to following through. Buying the program won't make you wealthy. Watching the videos won't make you wealthy.
Doing the exercises and then changing the way you think, feel and act so you take positive actions to attract wealth and invest it wisely will lead to success.
I still have very mixed feelings about the deal that Eben has put together.
On the one hand, if you suffer from bad programming about money, you're ambitious, committed to doing what it takes and you've got the cash, then the Self Made Wealth program is great value.
I can't see you needing much else to build a successful online business and you certainly shouldn't buy anything else until you've gone through all the training. It doesn't matter what other bright shiny objects attract your attention in the guru launches.

On the other hand, I think it's a real shame that Eben hasn't stripped away all the bonuses and made Self Made Wealth available at an affordable price to those who need it.
Getting your act together in terms of the way you think, feel and act with money will make a huge difference to your life and that of your family. Much of what we learn is learnt from our parents and if you've got bad programming about money, you're almost certainly passing it on to your kids.
I hear stories about people spending their last dime on information products and it trasnforming their lives. I guess I'm cynical but if buying Self Made Wealth means maxing out your credit card and making important sacrifices elsewhere, i recommend you pass on the offer.
Take what you've learnt from the launch trainings and apply that.
Is There A Guarantee For Self Made Wealth?
Yes of course there is a guarantee, Eben Pagan is an ethical Internet marketer. In 2010 he offered a full 100% 90 day guarantee if you take the full pay option to buy Self Made Wealth. (But can you afford it?)
That gives you the chance to work through the entire program and see for yourself the value you receive, and if you don't think it will increase your wealth by multiples of what you've paid, just email Eben's support team and ask for your money back.
In 2010 there was also a payment option which gives you a free 30 day trial of Self Made Wealth and then payments over 5 months. Since you're in control, you don't have a money back guarantee on this option because you are protected if you don't believe you're getting value for money.
In 2011 the guarantee has been toned down to a 100% money back guarantee covering the first 30 days and it's even conditional. People wanting their money back are asked to send an email saying "Eben I attended all of my trainings, did all my exercises and I honestly don't think this program will give me a good return on my investment, and I'd like a full refund."
The payment option has been scaled back to three months. I think this is a mistake for the people who most need Self Made Wealth given gthe high price.
I think you've got to take a hard nosed approach.
What To Do If You Extend Yourself To Buy Self Made Wealth
First, watch the Self Made Wealth videos as early as you can and as often as you can. This is not a program to enrol in and then waste the opportunity. That only makes your financial situation worse.
Then as you approach the thirty day mark - and you should put it in your diary - you need to assess the value you have received from Self Made Wealth.
Is it worth the first instalment value - has it saved you that much already or will it save you that much over the next few months and then an ongoing reduction in your costs or increase in your income?
This is one of the reasons why I'd have like to have seen the week 9 session earlier in the program. It seems to me that the first task is ti save you enough each month to cover the cost of the training.
Second question, do you have the money to spare to pay the Self Made Wealth instalment without it stopping you from buying some life essentials?
If you get two yesses, then you stay in the program and keep applying what you learn.
One question I like to use when facing a difficulty decision is one I learnt from business trainer and author Brian Tracy.
Ask yourself "Knowing what I know now would I still...?"
So towards the end of month 1 of the Self Made Wealth program, you ask yourself
"Knowing what I know now would I still enrol in the Self Made Wealth program and spend say ten hours this month watching and re-watching the videos?"
If the answer is No, then you know you have made the wrong decision and you need to get out before it costs you any money. If the answer is "don't know" because you haven't been consuming the videos, then that sounds like a No to me.
When is Self Made Wealth Available?
The Self Made Wealth program is available to buy in January 2011. Closing date is Tuesday February 1st 2011. Often there is a one day re-opening after the duplicate orders have been cleared out and to sweep up the people who weren't quite ready to act.

Should You Buy Self Made Wealth?
That depends on your situation, what you think of Eben's presentation style, how much effort you are prepared to put in and the price.
Having seen other Eben Pagan training programs, I am confident that Self Made Wealth will be another packed with top quality ideas and insights.
It requires you to take part in the training, to understand the program and to take actions based on what you've learnt.
If you don't change your actions, then Self Made Wealth won't help you to improve your financial success.

If You Can't Afford Self Made Wealth?
If Eben Pagan has whetted your appetite to understand more about the power of your financial mindset and success mindset but you can't afford Self Made Wealth, I can recommend a few books.
Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - based on a thirty year study of success with five hundred of the biggest names in the early twentieth century. It remains the classic text on success and creating the right mindset although the writing style is old fashioned.

There are a lot of versions of this book and I have linked to the most recent. While there are differences I would just concentrate on getting a copy and reading it.
Secrets Of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker - a fascinating look at how the poor, rich and middle class all look at money differently and how their mindset keeps them where they are.

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki - a book that gives you the realisation that everything your parents probably told you about being successful is wrong. It criticises the "work hard at school and get a good job" type of thinking and throws the spotlight on building a business and investing.

I read the second Rich Dad book first, The Cashflow Quadrant and there is a lot of overlap. I preferred the Cashflow Qudrant but everyone I've spoken to who read them in the right order prefers Rich Dad Poor Dad.
I found both the Harv Eker and Robert Kiyosaki books to be uncomfortable reading. They challenged my long held views about money which I thought were healthy.
I liked that. I don't agree with everything written but at least I have to reconcile the differences in my thinking. For example Harv Eker rails against the middle class desire to be comfortable as one of the big things that stops them from being wealthy.
If you're like me, you settle too quickly, you don't want it enough and you won't do the things necessary to be rich.
Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely - this book is different to the others because it looks at why we keep making irrational decisions. It's a fascinating read but it's not directly linked to getting the right financial success mindset.

If you have a bit morre money and you prefer audio learning because of the deeper emotional impact, Nightingale Conant have programs for Napoleon Hill , Robert Kiyosaki.and T Harv Eker.
The Nightingale Conant programs are tremendous value for money and don't come with the high pressure tactics of a product launch. Highly recommended and you can hear samples before you buy.
Eben Pagan has drawn on each of these three excellent books (and many more) for inspiration in creating the Self Made Wealth program.
What Eben will have done is synthesise all the different resources into a complete end to end program. The books will be cheaper but reading is passive and needs you to take more initiative.

Personally I think it's a shame that there isn't a fat free, no bonus version of Self Made Wealth which is much more affordable for the people who need it most.
