You need to have a vision of the result you want and your instinct will lead to purposeful action.
But if you don't have a vision, if you don't have a direction, your instinct has nothing to work with to guide you on your way.
The danger is that you concentrate on your day to day actions and see completing those as the goal in and of themselves and not as stepping stones to your vision.
I am a big believer in knowing where you want to go - doubt or the failure to make a choice leads to compromises and compromises don't lead to success.
