Just watched Boyd Matheson on iLearning Global and his "Checkers vs Chess" video.

Light on content but enthusiastically delivered and Boyd Matheson makes an important point.

The basic idea is to answer whether you are:

1. Reacting to what is happening around you - as in a game of checkers or
    
   
2. Whether you make things happen in line with your strategy.

Many small business owners are put off by the idea of strategy - because they think it is too time consuming and moves them away from their necessary day to day activities of working in the business.

I liked Boyd's idea of allocating just 15 minutes a day to think about your strategy.

You have to start somewhere - and you can find 15 minutes can't you? That's enough time to knock out one or, if you get good, two Guerrilla Marketing plans.  

Platinum Rule Collaborative Selling Tony Alessandra

I was so impressed with the Platinum Rule video from Tony Alessandra I decided to watch the 13 minute classic video immediately afterwards that is also in the iLearning Global portal.

In the classic videos of iLearning Global is a 65 minute video of Tony Alessandra explaining the Platinum Rule - treat others as they want to be treated- and the four basic categories of behaviour.

The content is superb and I have taken eight A4 pages of notes from this one video. It seems that I was constantly writing and listening.

Platinum Rule of Selling Scott Zimmerman

I have just watched the two part introduction to the Platinum Rule of Selling with Scott Zimmerman on iLearning Global.

The Golden Rule says "treat others as you want to be treated" but the Platinum Rule, created by Tony Alessandra says "treat others as they want to be treated".

The difference is subtle but creates much stronger relationships. It lifts you game but means that you have to adapt your behaviour to the other person.

Authorship Principle Don Hutson

The Don Hutson videos are excellent in iLearning Global and I have just watched the Authorship Principle.

Basically the idea behind the Authorship Principle is that you give other people the right to be heard when expressing their opinion.

Then when you take their ideas into account in designing the solution to a problem, their buy-in to the solution increases and they take pride in helping to create it.

This is the beauty of involving your staff and it also helps to identify ideas that you may not have considered.

But the Authorship Principle doesn't just work at the office with your employees. You can also apply the idea to your home life and use it in selling situations.

Magic Matrix Peter Thomson

Peter Thomson is considered to be the UK's leading business and personal growth specialist with his Nightingale Conant audio programs on the Great Achievers and Great Communicators, the Achievers Edge monthly audio newsletter and his premium product, the Accelerated Business Growth System.

Peter may be a new name to you but I know his work well and have even had a private lunch with him.

The Magic Matrix is a very well established technique for helping you to find opportunities to grow which already exist in your business and has added millions in profitable growth.

The idea is very simple - indeed I have used a version myself before I even knew of Peter and his Magic Matrix - and very effective.

Peter has extended the Magic Matrix idea further than I did in some ways but I have added twists of my own in my work.

It's also interesting to hear Peter's experience that managers can't answer a simple question in a consistent way and shows how most people don't recognise opportunities that exist.

And if people in the business can't answer the question, then how can customers and prospective customers who are much more interested in themselves than in you.

Great stuff.

I am very surprised that Peter Thomson has included the Magic Matrix in iLearning Global but you should be delighted.

Power Of Sui Generis Don Hutson

I didn't know what to expert from Don Hutson's "Power of Sui Generis" video.

I know Don is a great speaker but what is sui generis?

It seems that it is Latin for one of a kind so this video is about how you can distance yourself from your competitors and be one of a kind.

In business schools, this is referred to as differentiation and is a fundamental principle of success.

It's better to exciting to a few than nondescript and uninteresting to many.

So in this iLearning Global video, Don Hutson explains how you can stand out from the crowd with one or more of his seven ways to be different.

Excellent video and a good pep talk on finding your special place in your market.

Spending Is Emotional Alan Williams

I don't know who Alan Williams is or what he is an expert in but I have just watched the iLearning Global video "Spending Is Emotional" by him.

What a waste of time.

The title didn't describe the contents as the message is that time and money are linked.

Guess what I didn't need a lesson that 1 + 3 = 4 but not if there is a big time gap in between.

Just as a praise iLearning Global when it deserves it, I am amazed this passed the quality standard.

I expect better from iLearning Global.
