For the last week Ryan Deiss has been promoting a new program GMail Mind Tricks to his list and he has been thrilled by the response.
The key idea is that GMail Advertising lets you send the perfect message at the perfect time based on what people are saying in their gmail emails.
Now GMail Mind Tricks is doing the affiliate circuit it's been picked up by the "gurus" including Frank Kern and Andy Jenkins.
Here is the affiliate email and link to the very interesting video explaining more about GMail Mind Tricks before you have to make any commitment. Well worth watching, even if you don't intend spending any money.SUBJECT: How to legally Tap Gmail Accounts
OK, don't freak out I said legally!
Ryan Deiss (the Mad Scientist) just blew my mind with a 13 minute presentation about GMAIL. Dang he's smart!
Go watch this short video to see how its done...

My Thoughts On GMail Mind Tricks
I don't use a GMail account so I had no idea you got to see Adwords ads when you send an email and that those ads will vary based on what you say in your email.
That's certainly sneaky of Google but also very clever as it helps to make them more money.
I think it was the great John E Kennedy who said that marketers need to enter the conversation going on in the customer's mind...and that's what this content relevant promotional technique does.
I can't think of any advertising approach which is better targeted.
Here is a very brief video from Google explaining the technicalities of advertising on GMail. You can see for yourself this is an approved tactic.
Here are my thoughts from going through the GMail Mind Tricks training from Ryan Deiss.
First, you need to understand that GMail Advertising is an advanced technique and the GMail Mind Tricks training assumes a good knowledge of how to use Google Adwords.
This makes the training concise for experienced users but novices need to get a basic understanding first (I recommend you get to know Perry Marshall, the man recognised as the master and his friend and associate Glenn Livingston).
GMail Advertising is also a work in progress. Ryan Deiss is sharing what he's discovered but as part of the commitment of buying, he wants to hear about your experiences applying these ideas...and he is prepared to pay $1,000 for any ideas he builds into a future training program.
Unlike many of the Internet marketing "gurus", Ryan Deiss is active in various niche markets and much of his training ideas come from the things he's tried or noticed in his own marketing.
That's exactly how GMail Mind Tricks was discovered because Ryan found a lot of traffic from the content network - and high converting traffic as well - was coming from GMail.
As a natural tester and optimiser Ryan then set about finding ways to make this unexpected money making source even better.
GMail Mind Tricks takes you through the process of setting up as special campaign so your own testing can be as focused as possible.
Ryan then takes you through the four big ways to use GMail Advertising:
- Thought stringing
- Reader leads
- Competition killing
- His ninja voodoo trick - this is really sneaky.
It wouldn't be right to say much more about these since Gmail Mind Tricks is copyrighted proprietary training.
I will say this is clever stuff that makes a lot of sense when Ryan Deiss explains it.
So what's the difference between GMail Mind Tricks and the short video from Google?
Simple. The short video introduces the topic and briefly shows you what to do.
It's like a little video saying some businesses make good money from sending out direct mail. Then going on to say that you too can send out direct mail letters if you write a letter, put it in an envelope, stick a stamp on it and put it in the mail.
GMail Mind Tricks gives you advice on what to target and how to give a clear, compelling sales message. In my little direct mail example, think of it as the guide to choosing a list and writing a good sales letter.
Targeting GMail Advertising on your own might work, but as you pay for each and every click, you will quickly spend the money it costs to buy GMail Mind Tricks...and perhaps... much more.
A couple of concerns based on how new the GMail Advertising is.
First, I'm not sure how many people notice the Adwords campaigns when they use their GMail account.
Often our brains are set to tune out all periphery information like irrelevant advertising.
We just don't see it.
Because GMail Advertising is not used well, our subconscious minds may ignore these adverts because they are badly targeted. They don't fit in with what we are thinking and so our Reticular Activating Systems (RAS) which sort through all this data we see, isn't triggered to be interested.
Better, more relevant Adword campaigns will make these GMail Advertisements more noticeable...automatically because that's what the RAS part of our subconscious does. It's why we start noticing other people driving the same model and colour of our new car.
However, we can then go to the other extreme if GMail Advertising becomes very popular.
If your competitors get good at GMail Advertising, the GMailer will see lots of Adwords campaigns highly relevant to what they want.
But they are in GMail for one reason - they are emailing and not searching.
While one or two highly relevant adverts may be clicked out of curiosity, the person is in an email mindset rather than search mindset. In my view, people are unlikely to wade through six to ten highly relevant advertisements because it just takes too much time.
It does depend on how emotionally involving the problem is, since something that really matters will be given as much time as it needs to be solved but it will also depend on the person and the niche.
I see this as a big opportunity to be within the first two or three in your niche to specifically capitalise rather than jumping on the band wagon late. As with any competitive situation, the more who use GMail Advertising well, the less of the pie you will get.
I hope that makes sense.
The opportunity is now and the price for GMail Mind Tricks is low compared to the potential gains - watch Ryan Deiss's promotional video for more details of the specific offer. I don't want to quote numbers in case he puts the price up.
I like Ryan's training/presentation style.
GMail Mind Tricks highly recommended for people already doing well with Google Adwords and sell a product people are likely to talk about in emails. It's not likely to work as well for things that people are embarrassed about and keep to themselves.
I am an affiliate and if you click through and buy from my link, I will earn a commission.
If you found my review of GMail Mind Tricks helpful then please buy through my affiliate link. It helps to pay for my time to review these products. Thanks. The simple fact is that these short term promotions have to pay their way or I stop doing them...and you are left with the promotional hype.
I know they are good and I'm happy to recommend them, both from what I see for myself and the low refund rates.
My advice - watch the GMail Mind Tricks video if you have any interest in pay per click advertising and you sell a product that people will chat about to their friends in emails.
And do it now - Ryan has indicated the GMail Mind Tricks offer won't be around for long.
What Do You Think About GMail Advertising and GMail Mind Tricks?
It would be great to hear your thoughts on GMail Advertising.
Do you use GMail and if so, do you notice and click on the advertisements?
How relevant do you find the Adwords to what you are thinking and writing?
Have you bought GMail Mind Tricks and if so, what do you think?
Have you started a GMail Advertising campaign - deliberately or accidentally through a content network campaign - and if so, how is it working for you?

I mentioned that Frank Kern and Andy Jenkins have gone out to their lists with GMail Mind Tricks.
John Reese also recommended it overnight and Frank has hit his list again.
It seems that Frank actually bought GMail Mind Tricks himself...and he's started to implement the tactics.

Ryan Deiss is set to close the GMail Mind Tricks offer on Tuesday January 19th.
He said this wouldn't be around for long and there has been massive interest in GMail Advertising.
I haven't seen a spike in my blog's traffic like this since the first Arbitrage Conspiracy launch in December 2008.
Ryan has asked his affiliates to make one final push so this is the email you can expect to see - and yes it is loaded with my affiliate link.
If you want to try GMail Mind Tricks - and I really like pretty much all of Ryan's stuff I've seen - then please buy through my link. These big name gurus don't need the money as much as I do.

This is it. I just got the word from my wicked smart buddy Ryan Deiss that he is pulling down his free controversial GMAIL Advertising presentation tonight no later than midnight.
If you haven't heard about this game changing presentation, this is your last chance.
I have personally NEVER seen anything like it and I'll bet you haven't either

The above link is unchanged although I normally strip out the bit about us being best buddies.
If you asked Ryan Deiss about Paul Simister he'd go "who?".
I've never met him but he is one of the few Internet marketing experts I give my attention to every time an email comes in.
He is that good.

What do you think about GMail Mind Tricks.
I had a quick look on the web for other genuine reviews but I didn't find any.
Frustrating.
If you've bought it, I'd like to know if you think the ideas behind GMail Advertising are as clever as I do.
When you watch the trainer, you understand why applying search thinking doesn't have the same impact.

Gmail mind tricks looks like a new kind of technique for advertising but I really doubt it will work. The kind of mood it creates differs from the one searching on a search engine. If you open your email, the only purpose you have in mind is to read your email and reply to it. So your thought is busy thinking what to say and that definitely not in a buying mood.
Bad example in my opinion using a divorce kind of thing then slapping ads to it.

Thanks for your comment but next time, please use your real name because I don't publish most with keywords/urls.
I agree and disagree.
I agree the main thought is going to be about writing and reading emails so advertisements will be ignored unless they carefully tune into strong desires, pains and frustrations.
I also agree that people won't click lots of ads which appear relevant when using GMail which is why I think effective competition could kill it.
But I believe Ryan when he says he's getting good traffic and conversion.
And Google are a great money making machine. When the GMail Ads were first introduced, it was thought intrusive and Google came under pressure to take them away.
They didn't...and I suspect that's because they make money...and if they make money for Google, they must be driving traffic.

In 2011 GMail Advertising from Ryan Deiss is back.
Expect to see a lot of promotions about GMail Mind Tricks.
It's still an idea that I like and like Adwords in the content network and Facebook Ads, your advertising isn't surrounded by your competitors (in search marketing it is).
That means that you have more of an open field to make yourself relevant and to present your case.
