There is a very interesting promotional video Ryan Deiss has sent out to his list attacking Google and introducing Facebook ad power (affiliate link), his training product for Facebook advertising.
It was good enough to convince me to buy Facebook Ad Power after thinking about the special characteristics of advertising on Facebook for a while.
Below you will have seen I have added a bonus to help you to implement your advertising campaigns if you decide to buy Facebook Ad Power through my affiliate link.
Ryan has a good go at the virtual monopoly power of Google and what he's saying, many others are quietly thinking.
Google is too big and dominant and it is biting the hand of the direct marketers who latched onto Google Adwords from the early days and helped Google make a fortune.
Google keeps introducing new rules to clean up the web but it makes it more difficult for people like us, the small guys, to make money
Ryan's video introduces the idea of advertising on Facebook as an alternative way to attract traffic.
You have to be careful - Facebook have rules ... and like Google, Facebook can close accounts.
But Ryan has cracked advertising on Facebook and he is getting some great conversions from some very targeted adverts. I believe him because Ryan is an innovative marketer who is an active in various niche markets.
The learning curve for Facebook advertising is steep to do on your own so no surprise, Ryan is introducing his own training product called Facebook Ad Power/
Facebook Ad Power - affiliate link.
The promotional videomakes the idea sound very interesting and I expect you to hear a lot more about Facebook Ad Power. Ryan Deiss has been telling his affiliates how good it is for some time.
How Big Is The Facebook Opportunity?
Traffic on Facebook is huge.
As always I revert to Alexa.com on these traffic issues and this is the graph I took off this morning showing three of the biggest websites in the world - Facebook, Google and YouTube.
It shows the continued rising trend on Facebook and the current Alexa rank is 2.
The success of Facebook surprises me.
I played around with Facebook back in 2008 but in 2009 I switched over to Twitter.
Ryan is making me think I need to be taking another hard look at Facebook.
StomperNet SMARTS gave me my first training on Facebook advertising. We covered ads but things will have moved on a lot in the last two years. The key to success is about finding out what works now and in the future.
One last point on Facebook Ad Power - I thought Ryan had pitched it at a very attractive price for those interested - high to stop the people who aren't going to put in the effort but low enough for the effective marketers to make their money back very quickly.
Why I Bought Facebook Ad Power
OK I was a sceptic on Facebook Ad Power but over the last week I have been warming to the idea of using the power of Facebook marketing to reach people. I finally pulled out my credit card and bought.
I blow hot and cold on social media - it is both fascinating to see something like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter burst into life and become so popular but being active on the social media networks can consume a huge amount of time - often interesting but with little positive to show from it - and I don't get the 35,000 friends bit. It doesn't work on Facebook or Twitter.
The interesting thing is you don't have to use Facebook regularly to make money from Facebook advertising. It's not like Twitter where you keep having to send messages.
When I coach marketing to my clients I teach search marketing where someone has a problem and takes positive action to find a solution. This is the world of the search engines and for marketing purposes takes you into SEO and pay per click.
I also teach outreach marketing which is about reaching out to the people you think could have a problem but who are not yet taking action to find the solution. This is the world of direct mail, telemarketing and most newspaper advertising.
It works on the principle of interrupting what they are doing by catching their attention and making a relevant offer - the essential thing is to sell the next step - the click, the call, the email...
As a rule outreach marketing is expensive because of the problems of targeting who is a likely buyer and the wastage of reaching all those who are not interested.
But - and here is the kicker - for every person searching there are usually five to ten people who have the problem and could be open to buying if they saw something that was interesting and relevant.
Stop and think about what you buy and how it compares with what you searched for. Sometimes you may be very targeted but who hasn't come back from a bit of retail therapy with something they had no clue they wanted until the offer was put in front of them?
If you stick to search marketing you are missing out on all these possible customers.
And that's why Facebook advertising - and the training available from Ryan Deiss in Facebook Ad Power - is so interesting.
Facebook gives you a way to use outreach marketing on a pay per performance basis - no waste for the 97% of people who don't respond to a very good direct mail sales letter - and it gives you the chance to target very precisely who you want to attract.
In outreach marketing it is very easy to waste a lot of money - the more you can target a compelling message to the right audience, the more success you will have and the less misfires.
In Facebook advertising you pay for clicks just like pay per click in the search engines and you can target people who haven't started searching.
I decided to try Facebook Ad Power (affiliate link) and why don't you give it a go?
As a well established affiliate of Ryan Deiss, I know he honours the guarantee if you decide you don't like Facebook Ad Power or you decide Facebook advertising isn't for you and you want your money back.
How I am Planning To Advertise On Facebook
The first thing I'm likely to promote is a little mastermind group for coaches I am putting together.
The number of coaches who are searching for a weekly mastermind is small but there should be a lot who are interested in the idea of a mastermind based around growing their coaching practice and attracting more clients.
Facebook gives me the chance to target the coaches and display an appealing ad - and to choose by geographically so I can fit times with time zones.
My other options are limited to finding a mailing list and writing to them or searching the Internet and making a direct offer by email or telephone.
That's just the start as I'd like to extent the mastermind idea to other sectors I like to work with like accountants, copywriters and web designers.

Plenty Of Other Ways To Use Facebook Ads
In the free 3 Sneaky Facebook Ad Tricks Video - which you can get to if you try to close the main Facebook Ad Power video window (affiliate link) and opt-in Ryan takes you through the idea of targeting a weight loss product in various ways including High School reunions.
Here's an example of how you can use Facebook advertising from my own imagination.
Suppose you had a nice ladies shoe shop - something that most women seem to be passionate about - and you decide to do something a bit different. You decide to reduce your general stocks by half and for a two week period overstock in a particular size.
For the next two weeks you are stocking in depth size 4, european size 37 offering shoes that women can't normally get in your region, some even especially important from Italy.
You could select your targets carefully in Facebook - select your region, sex, age -and create a Facebook ad with a headline emphasising the size and exclusivity, stunning photo of a high heeled shoe and a 10% discount coupon offer.
And then wait... do you think the Facebook ad would attract clicks from women in your region?
Do you think it would get them talking to their friends?
And if someone takes a size 6 do you think they'll ignore your advert when it is their turn?
No promises that it will work - I am just trying to show you how Facebook advertising can be used to drive sales for a local retail store rather than a service or information product.
Facebook advertising is virtually as flexible as your imagination to create compelling marketing offers and messages and Facebook Ad Power helps you to turn the general concept into practical applications.
Facebook Ad Power (affilate link)
The Downside Of Facebook Advertising
I have a vested interest in you buying Facebook Ad Power as an affiliate but while others are hyping it up, I want you to understand.
From the research I've done on Facebook advertising, the downside is that you need to be changing your ads very regularly. Unlike pay per click where new people are coming along all the time, a Facebook ad could be seen many times.
Some repetition of Facebook ads is good - it builds up brand familiarity and sometimes we don't have time to browse - but too much repetition will mean viewers become bored, clicks go down and Facebook don't make the money they want.
That makes sense to me and just like in Google Adwords, the interests of buyers, marketers and Facebook are aligned in providing interesting ads that attract clicks - and if it doesn't the ad is good for anyone.
This makes it better for short term promotions than long term "calls us when you need us" type offers. Facebook users also have the chance to provide feedback on ads - good or bad - and that affects what they see in the future and how your ad performs.
Response rates are also likely to vary significantly - your marketing is aiming to interrupt people and persuade them to change what they are doing. People log into Facebook to engage with friends so you have to give a great reason to change what they are doing.
I think the Internet has created a world of clickers with short attention spans - people will click if there is strong relevance and what's in it for them factor - but they won't click on advertisements that don't attract attention or don't create interest or curiosity.
It will require subtle differences in your marketing message but if you are used to direct response marketing, you will be well use to adapting to feedback from the market.
Affiliate Marketers Beware of Facebook Advertising
My impression is that Facebook advertising suits unique offers carefully targeted.
I don't think it suits big affiliate marketing opportunities and as more advertisers use Facebook, the opportunities will reduce.
Let's imagine Ryan Deiss releases Facebook Ad Power super deluxe with personal coaching for $1,997 and as an affiliate you want to promote it on Facebook.
You decide target anyone with Ryan Deiss, Facebook advertising and Internet marketing in their profiles - so will plenty of Ryan's other affiliates.
Why should Facebook accept multiple ads for the same thing and why should anyone click if they keep seeing the same thing.
In the Facebook Ad Power training, I think it was Perry Belcher talking about Clickbank offers and they may have worked well in the early days but you'll need to get increasingly imaginative.
Targeting "Spain" to sell Spanish language CDs isn't going to get the click through although the numbers of potential customers is huge. Targeting "just booked my Spanish holiday" and "I wish I could speak Spanish" may be better.
What Do You Get When You Buy Facebook Ad Power
Facebook Ad Power consists of a training video from Ryan Deiss, three videos from a Perry Belcher presentation on Facebook advertising at a recent event, a copy of the mp3 presentation and a pdf of the slides delivered digitally.
Despite the product photograph I don't think there is a hard copy version and for me that's good. I have too many boxes which take up too much space.
You also get access to a few extra goodies that come out of the Total Access Club as you will become a member of the Traffic and Conversion Blueprint (no strings and no sneaky continuity that I can see).
One of the things I appreciate about Ryan Deiss is that he delivers the information in a very concise way. I'm sure you will have experienced how some take three good ideas and string it out for an hour - Frank Kern springs to mind. A lot of his stuff is very interesting but it's very slow if you are taking notes.
Ryan Deiss is the Brian Tracy of Internet marketing - solid content delivered fast without the fluff. Someone else could have strung Facebook Power Ads into a much longer course.
6 or 10 hours sounds better than 89 minutes but the beauty of a short intense course is that you can watch is two or three times - and you pick up extra nuances each time - and be experimenting / implementing before the person with the longer course gets to the end.
Perry Belcher is an enthusiastic and engaging speaker with his outsize personality and the combined videos are about 65 minutes long. There is quite a lot of overlap between the Ryan Deiss presentation and Perry Belcher presentation. Their different styles had my mine going in different directions about how I can use Facebook advertising.
This is important - knowledge is nice - but it's what you do that makes you money.

How Facebook Ad Power Can Be Improved
What else would I have liked in Facebook Ad Power?
The Ryan Deiss presentation is excellent and suits my style of learning but you can't download it as video and there is no mp3. I would also like to see a transcript. There is so much great content but you may want to go back to specific sections and refresh your memory without revisiting the bits you already understand.
It is a small niggle but I hope Ryan adds it to the product later.
The Facebook Ad Power Buying Experience
You'll be taken through a two step process.
The first to capture your name and email address which is proven best practice and well worth making a mental note about because of shopping cart abandonment issues.
The second you will enter your credit or debit card details.
Then you will meet an upsell to get the full trainings available from the Ryan Deiss Traffic and Conversion Blueprint which gets you access into a lot of small training programs which can be bought separately - the four I checked were all at the $197 mark so the upsell is a very good deal - and you'll be offered a payment plan if you say No.
Most of the time I think we've been conditioned to turn down these upsells but this looks like one worth giving some attention to rather than having the traditional automatic response. I said No because I made another purchase today - Hyper Responsive Marketing Secrets

What If You Buy Facebook Ad Power And Decide It's Not For You?
This Facebook training from Ryan will be taken away - that's what he did with GMail Advertising - so if you are interested, then I suggest you give it a try and if necessary claim your money back.
The details are provided on the website but for convenience the relevant page is here
http://drivingtraffic.com/cancel/
Personally if you are interested in using a new advertising medium and hitting a precise demographic, I don't think you will want your money back.
Facebook Advertising is a new way to advertise on the Internet and while it may time time to find the right message to market match, I see a big potential.
Yes the advertising space may get more crowded but as offers get more relevant, people on Facebook will pay more attention and click. It's human nature - just as it is to ignore stuff that is not relevant.

What Do You Think Of Facebook Advertising?
Have you used Facebook advertising? If so, have you found it easy to use and had good results?
If you snapped up the offer on Facebook Ad Power - and I expect this to come and go as quickly as Ryan's GMail Advertising program - then I'd also like to know what you think.

Facebook Ad Power has not been included in the Total Access Club so I have had to spend my own money to buy a copy.

It seems that an mp3 of Facebook Ad Power from the Ryan Deiss and Perry Belcher traffic summit has hit the torrents.
The problem is that taking copyright material is little different from shoplifting.
Two ways of looking at this:
To cover the losses from the illegal activities, genuine customers have to pay more. That's what happens in stores.
Innovators like Ryan Deiss will say stuff you, stop trying to help out the Internet marketers and keep their ideas to themselves and a trusted inner circle.
Unlike other products from Ryan Deiss, I haven't seen the Facebook Ad Power so I'm not sure exactly what you get and how it differs from the conference presentation.

Paul,
You're spot on about a few things here.
1) Ryan Deiss is usually ahead of the curve.
2) Andy's Video Boss is gonna crush it
3) Facebook advertising is a strong contender
I've experimented with the FB advertising engine and Ryan's correct, its much easier than Google's ad manager and what's even more cool, is how it give you real-time counts as you drill down and select the exact traits you seek in a target audience.
Anyway, glad I found your site. Your RSS feed is working fine.
All for now,
Neil

Thanks for your comment and it's good to hear you are following what's going on.
I'm trying to cut through the hype on Internet marketing.
Posted by: Paul | February 13, 2010 at 04:46 AM
If you searched for Facebook Ad Power, landed on this page and thought "this sounds familiar" you'd be right.
I've found that my blog has been ripped off and stripped of the affiliate links by a website that ranks higher than me for Facebook Ad Power -or at least it did when I checked this morning.
As my dog might say "Grrrr" - very frustrating.
I'd be interested to hear what you think of the Ryan Deiss video to promote Facebook Ad Power and if you've bought the product, what you think.
Posted by: Paul | February 15, 2010 at 10:59 AM
bought this product and very disappoint, he breaks down TOS that everyone can read for free and does not look he know much about FB marketing at all, I doubt he has made any serious money from FB. Will ask my money back, and will never buy anything from him again
Posted by: silver | February 16, 2010 at 01:55 AM
Silver, thanks for you comment about Facebook Ad Power.
I am very surprised as Ryan's stuff is normally very good.
As for breaking down facebook's Terms of Sale for advertising, I would expect Ryan to cover these. Just because they can be read for free doesn't mean people will read. Do wrong and you can get banned and lose the benefits of a lot of past work and relationships.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting your money back as Ryan is one of the good guys.
(Note to other readers - I have treated the above comment as genuine feedback although for some strange reason, the link on the name takes you to the Google search engine and not a website. It would be wrong of me to censor comments because something looks suspicious.)
Anyone else tried Facebook Ad Power?
Posted by: Paul | February 16, 2010 at 06:46 AM
When Silver posted his comment I hadn't seen any refunds on my affiliate sales of Facebook Ad Power.
Since then I have seen a couple.
Now you can see this in two ways.
1 - the Facebook Advertising idea doesn't live up to the promotion
or
2 - people have been prepared to give it a try confident that if they didn't like it, they would get their money back under the guarantee.
Your choice.

I am not a huge fan of the Warrior Forum but if you are thinking about buying Facebook Ad Power from Ryan Deiss, you may want to check out the comments.
It starts with a few "does anybody know anything about Facebook Ad Power?" style posts and then you get comments from a couple of people who have bought it.
Both are positive
http://www.warriorforum.com/internet-marketing-product-reviews-ratings/179133-facebook-ad-power.html
I expect others to appear to knock the product.
It seems that Ryan Deiss has bundled an affiliate arrangement into the Facebook Ad Power deal.
You are likely to struggle to find a genuine review from someone who has worked through the Facebook Ad Power videos, taken the time and trouble to write a review and then doesn't try to sell it to you.
Even if they don't disclose they are affiliates, it doesn't mean they are not and ignoring the FTC rules or think they don't apply because the blog is hosted outside of the U.S.

I think I had better explain about this page on Facebook Ad Power.
It started as a news announcement as Ryan Deiss is one of the Internet trainers I follow closely.
It became an affiliate sales page when the affiliate link was made available for Facebook Ad Power.
It then became a Facebook advertising discussion as I saw volumes of people searching for Facebook Ad Power go through the roof.
Finally it has included a Facebook Ad Power review as I convinced myself that this wasn't the next big thing in social media which leads to a lot of time wasted and little result.
The more I thought about advertising on Facebook based on demographics and the interests of the Facebook users, the more it made sense.
I wasn't involved in Internet marketing when Google Adwords was breaking but I can imagine many sceptics saying "it'll never catch on - Google will never make money like this."
Hindsight is a great thing, but sometimes if you want to succeed, you need to be ahead of the crowd.
Facebook Ad Power is very popular and Ryan Deiss has already sold a lot of copies.
Competition will increase and certain niches will be extremely tough but there are plenty of others that just require someone with some imagination and the know-how to put together an effective Facebook advertising campaign.

Very pleased to see Ryan Deiss follow through on his promise to keep Facebook Ad Power up to date and improving.
Just a few days after it closed Ryan has sent out an email to the people who have bought
"Remember when I said Facebook Ad Power was a "LIVING" training and that you are going to get updates and supplimental training for the next 12 months ?
Well, I meant it. BUT, I need you to tell me what questions you still have about Facebook Advertising!"

To keep you uptodate with what is happening with Facebook Ad Power, Ryan Deiss has now added
the mp3 from his core Facebook advertising training along with a pdf of his presentation
the sandwich page template for your facebook ads and squeeze page templates.
Ryan has also corrected his little mistake in the training and says
"At one point in the training I said that you could even target "Groups" in "Keywords" and I actually meant to say "Fan Pages"...
OUCH, how embarrassing!
So, I corrected that and added in a few new tidbits too."
You can see Facebook Ad Power is a developing program.

My inbox has been filling up for the last few days with Ryan Deiss emails promoting Facebook Ad Power 2011.
How different is it to the 2010 version?
Don't know.
Because I had the 2010 version and the Black Friday Facebook promotion (which may be what this new product is all about) I don't have any urge to find out.
However if you missed either or both of those two promotions and you're interested in Facebook, then I recommend you take a look at it.
My experience of Ryan and his short courses has been that they are really good and packed with useful information which you can put into action.
Expect Facebook Ad Power to be passed over to affiliates soon.
