Different Types Of Business Coaching
You will find that business coaches come from two different perspectives which can be confusing for you but it is important to be clear what it is you want and need.
- Soft Skill Business Coach
A soft skill business coach believes that most of the answers live within you.
The coaching process is based on asking you challenging questions so that you find the answer yourself about how to control your time, improve your negotiations skills, manage your staff and communicate your marketing messages.
These business coaches emphasise their training in coaching techniques and will be reluctant to offer practical advice and may even refuse as they believe it is outside their coaching responsibilities.
- Hard Skill Business Coach
A hard skill business coach is skilled in business, has many years business experience and often prestigious business qualifications.
These business coaches see it as a joint responsibilities to help you to solve your business problems and will teach you business building skills which you don't currently have.
Both types of coaches will help you to focus on your problems and set goals, action plans to achieve your goals and help you to monitor your progress and hold you accountable.
So before I tell you which category my coaching style falls in to, which approach do you believe could have the most benefits for you and help you to build a more profitable, self sufficient business?
If you answered "hard skills" then that is great because it is the way I work.
I use some of the soft skill techniques but I know that there are "secrets to business success" which can be learned and it is not just a case of improving your attitude and helping you to face up to issues.

You Must Want To Change
I don't want to "sell you on a business coaching program."
It sounds strange but it is essential to the success of us working together that this is something you really want to do. Clever or slick sales closing techniques are inappropriate because:
- You have to want to change - you know that "if you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got" so "what got you to where you are, won't get you to where you want to be",
- You must be prepared to a) be challenged (if I think you are wrong I will tell you) and b) listen to my advice.
- Take action to reach your goals and achieve your definition of success.
Business Coaching Doesn't Work If...
If you don't want to change and you don't want your business to change, business coaching won't work for you.
If you want to be told that you are right all the time, business coaching won't work.
If you won't listen to new ideas and consider how they can be applied to your business, business coaching won't work.
If you don't take action, business coaching won't work.
I hope that makes sense. My aim is to deliver measurable profit improvement in your business but I can't do it without your active support so it doesn't make sense to "sell you a program", especially as I don't believe in holding you to fixed contract periods.

My approach is to help you to buy business coaching if it is right for you.
The way I do this is to let you experience the benefits of being coached for yourself.
I offer a free thirty minute coaching session over the telephone. [This offer only applies to entrepreneurs and small business owners in the UK. I don't do any coaching for clients outside the UK although I can recommend some excellent business development programs to help you.]
I know that you are the best judge of whether business coaching will work or it won't.
To apply for your free coaching session:
- Call me, Paul Simister on 0121 554 4057
- Tell me about your business and the particular problems you are facing which you need to solve. If I believe I can provide a cost effective, high quality solution we will then schedule the free coaching call.
- I will then send you my business health check or Eight Pillars questionnaire (which depends on the problems you mention and how big your business is).
- You complete the health check or questionnaire and send it back to me at least two days before the scheduled call.
- We hold the 30 minute coaching call so that you can experience what it is like to be coached by me. At the end I will ask you whether you wish to take up the option of my coaching. If so I will send you a proposal to sign and the formal coaching begins.
Face To Face Business Coaching Birmingham and West Midlands
Coaching over the telephone is very effective and it keeps fees down but I know that some people prefer to have face to face meetings.
Provided you are in the local Birmingham and West Midlands area, that I offer a face to face business coaching service although travelling time means that this option does cost more.
Group Business Coaching Birmingham and West Midlands
While one to one business coaching is the premium service as it focuses on you and your business, I am aware that very small businesses find the costs high.
To make my coaching accessible to even the smallest of businesses I am planning to establish group business coaching in 2009 by creating a business growth mastermind group.
The idea is that a small group of Birmingham and West Midlands based business owners are taken through my structured business coaching programme - The Eight Pillars Of Business Prosperity - over a twelve month period and we all learn from each other, share experiences and opinions.
