Twitter is continuing to grow and it is definitely the phenomenon of 2009 as these latest figures from Alexa.com show - it currently has an Alexa ranking of 29 (Amazon.com is 34 to put it in perspective and Google.co.uk is number 20).
It is both fun to do as you just have to type 140 characters, choose people to follow and hope that people will follow you.
I predict that it will continue to grow and I spend much more time on Twitter than I do facebook. In fact today social media marketing expert Perry Belcher argues that Twitter should be at the very centre of your social media efforts. (see Social Media Matrix).
So have you grabbed your name and brand name on Twitter?
With an unusual name like Simister I am lucky in that there are not too many people competing for it, although I'm not number one in Google for Paul Simister searches at the moment.
Last week I thought that perhaps I should secure my brand - Your Profit Coach - but when I tried, it said that the name had already been grabbed.
It turns out that I did it months ago and had forgotten but as Twitter grows, the real estate with your name and brand is only going to become more valuable.
So if you haven't secured your personal name and brand, then I encourage you to do it now.
You do need to have a separate email address for each Twitter name but don't delay.
Even the short tweets can do remarkably well in Google, especially for long tail phrases and my Twitter account is on page 1 of Google searches for Paul Simister.

Personally I think that personal names are best for Twitter since it is about getting known and trusted but the Google effects of Twitter are interesting.
I have realised that it is not just brands but also keyword phrases that can be used.
I would still try to build up my following through my personal name but I could be persuaded to tweet under a number of different names to get the Google effect and traffic through to money pages.
