PR stands for public relations or the narrower definition of press releases.
This topic looks at how the wider world views your business as something that adds value to society in general and to your customers in particular.
Much of what influences public relations happens in the publishing press media outside of paid for advertising:

Public relations come in three broad levels:
- Public love
- Public hate
- Public indifference
In some ways, indifference - to be unknown or known but not cared about - is the worst position.
Often brands polarise people between love and hate. Sports teams are a great example of this phenomenon where great dedication to one team leads to bitter rivalries with others.
Other times a brand does something so wrong that public hate is overwhelming. As a student I boycotted Barclays Bank because of its links to apartheid South Africa.
Since the credit crunch, banks and bankers have done a great job of being public hate figures. They have lost the public relations battle.
