Done right cause related marketing creates three wins:
It is good for the charity or the cause because they get funds they wouldn't otherwise have got... and of course it is good for the people who benefit from the charity.
It is also good for the business doing the selling because they get extra customers. The cause is one way to help differentiate your business from competitors which makes it particularly useful if you are all providing very similar products and services.
Even if you break even on the first transaction because of the donation to the charity, you have the benefit of the back end profits that comes from repeat business.
You also have the satisfaction... as I have... of feeling that you are giving back to a cause that means a lot to you personally.
Customers buy products they feel good about... and cause related marketing is another valuable way to help your customers to feel good about buying from you.
There are plenty of good causes and children's charities are particularly popular because so many people can relate to the cause.
I want to raise money for cancer, the terrible situation in Haiti is dominating the news at the moment - the news this morning that someone has been rescued from the rubble after two weeks is amazing - and there are always more good causes than money to go around.
