I am a bit down on social media marketing at the moment myself and limit where I spend my time. However some people have big success and it can suit people who are targeting home based businesses and use social media to get past the feelings of loneliness and isolation.
He's inspired me to move LinkedIn up in my priorities. I joined over two years ago and while I have pushed Twitter and Facebook (the links are over to the right) I haven't tried to make more contacts on LinkedIn.
