I help local firms to get first page rankings on Google and the other search engines as part of my wider marketing coaching and business coaching.
SEO (search engine optimisation) and PPC (pay per click) are both topics that I cover in my lead generation training.
Getting traffic to a website is just one part of getting your Internet marketing to give you the return you want.
Sadly sometimes it is a case of best laid plans...
Search Engine Optimisation BirminghamYes, even those of us who know how to do this stuff can sometimes be let down by the mysterious workings of the Mighty G.
The irony.
My page promoting my SEO services for my local area - Birmingham and the West Midlands - isn't featuring on the first page of Google.
Look you can check it out for yourself as I have set up the search for Search Engine Optimisation Birmingham in Google.
Where does my page promoting my services appear?
Nowhere.
I got bored of looking after page 3 of SEO businesses. Most buyers stick to page one and occasionally page two if they are having difficulty finding exactly what they want.
OK I wrote it partly because I wanted to prove a point...it is quite easy to get ranked locally but I guess I picked a difficult phrase.
After all, I'm up against people who do search engine optimisation for a living and take it as a matter of pride that they get good rankings in their own area.
Mind you, the power of the website should have been enough to get a ranking without all the fancy SEO stuff that can be done.
Let's see if this blog - and the link from it to SEO Birmingham - will give it a bump.
And how do I do in my own business area where I should be devoting my SEO work?
Glad you asked, if only to recover from this humiliation.
At the moment I rank second nationally for business coach and third for business coaching in Google.co.uk
And of course, Google says my blog is the number one business coaching blog in the world.
Search engine optimisation nationally is much more difficult than locally - more competition and you're often playing against the big boys who know the insider tricks. It means you've got more work to do what's necessary to get your search engine rankings on page 1.
See I do know my stuff on SEO and that's why my pitiful performance in my local market is so frustrating.
Rant over.

My guess is that google doesn't associate your blog with SEO Paul (Latent Semantic Indexing and all that jazz). Whereas it does associated it with all the topics related to business coaching, increasing profit and growing a business.
So posts and keywords related to those will rank quickly - "off topic" keywords - like SEO at the moment won't.

Not so sure Ian.
It's on my Online Profits blog which has plenty of SEO stuff on it and for example ranks no 1 in Google.com for
Stomping The Search Engines Review,
what's thought to be the most popular SEO training course ever.
Of course I've not made a serious attempt at getting ranked by building links.
